Travel
This year I got the amazing opportunity to travel abroad. I had done plenty of traveling across the United States but had not really gotten to do much traveling outside of that, but when I saw the email for an inexpensive study abroad trip I couldn't resist. The whirlwind started almost immediately. I had to get a new passport, work to save some money, and take a preparatory class for the trip. But on May 11 after a frantic trip to the airport and an exceptionally long security line, we were off to Germany, France, and Belgium. The trip started in Germany with a 2 1/2 hour bus ride from Frankfurt to Otzenhausen where we first connected with our cohort. We spent much of our time in lectures and seminars where the focus was on international relations and cooperation, and performed mock EU delegations. We explored topics from the refugee crisis, to sustainability and learned about why it is so important for Europe to work together. Even more fulfilling though was the time we spent with our cohort. As a group we explored the streets of Trier where modern meets ancient; went wine tasting in the Alsace-Lorraine region; and spent two days in Brussels exploring both the EU and the multi-linguistic city.
Even though I only spent 10 days exploring Europe I loved it. I know that if the opportunity arose I would go back in a second. I created lasting friendships and memories and know that I am so lucky I got the opportunity. I have been bitten by the travel bug, and I love it.
Internship
I am excited to announce I will be participating in what is lovingly known as the Morocco Project. I will be working with Kennesaw State's Holocaust and WWII Museum in partnership with a group of Moroccan American Studies students to curate a physical exhibit that will eventually travel to North Africa. We will be studying and focusing primarily on Operation Torch which was the British-American invasion of French North Africa during WWII.
